Permit

Official permission required to enter a protected, restricted or forest area, issued for a named group and dates. Common on Himalayan treks.

What is Permit?

Many Indian trek routes pass through forest divisions, national parks or inner-line areas that require permits from the forest department or district administration. Permits are issued for a stated number of people, often against ID copies, and checked at forest gates.

Permit collection is where traveller IDs get requested over chat and lost. The leader carries the permit; travellers carry the ID that matches it.

On a live trip

Collect ID type and the minimum identifying detail on the roster well before the batch, and tell travellers on the packing list that the operator carries the permit but they must carry the matching ID.
