Guardian consent
Written permission from a parent or legal guardian for a minor to take part in a trip and for the organiser to collect and use the child's personal data.
What is Guardian consent?
Student trips rest on consent forms. Participation consent, emergency medical consent, photography consent and personal data consent are separate decisions and are best collected as separate signatures rather than one line at the bottom of a form.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, a child is anyone under 18 and processing a child's personal data requires verifiable consent of the parent or lawful guardian. The DPDP Rules notified in 2025 describe how that verification is expected to work.
On a live trip
Collect signed consents before invites go out, keep them with the roster, and make sure the captain knows which travellers are minors and who their guardians are.
