Live location sharing
A traveller's phone sharing its position with the operator during a trip, scoped to the trip and switched off when it ends.
What is Live location sharing?
Live location lets a captain see where a group has spread out and lets the office respond to an SOS with a position. It is also personal data of a sensitive kind, so how it is scoped matters: only during the trip, pausable by the traveller, off automatically at trip end, and with history deleted after a short period.
For minors, India's DPDP Act section 9(3) restricts tracking and behavioural monitoring of children unless an exemption in the Rules applies. Operators running student trips should have counsel confirm their position before enabling location for under-18s.
On a live trip
Tell travellers exactly when sharing is on, when it is off and who can see it. Collect location consent separately from trip participation consent.
